El Cocuy


The Cocuy is a Colombian municipality of the province capital of Gutierrez in the department of Boyaca. It is also called "Snowy City, Haven of Peace." The National Park Cocuy is a strategic ecosystem and it is the maximum height of the Colombian eastern Andes, the Blanco Ritacuba peak (5,330 m). The Nevado of about 3% of the total area of ​​NNP Cocuy (306,000 acres) has more than 20 snow peaks, glacial lakes, deserts, flora and fauna characteristic of the Andean forest.

Gaps are: The Greens, Laguna Grande de la Sierra, La Isla, Plaza, El Avellanal and Lagunillas (Painted, Square, Stop and Crossed).

The area has pockets of rainforest cold floor, moor, and floor superpáramo snow, enormous wealth of flora in virgin state. Recommendations:

Carry equipment for climbing and camping in the mountains, insulation, sleeping bag and cold weather clothing.
