Iza


Iza is a Colombian Towun located in the province of Sugamuxi in the department of Boyaca. It is located about 90 kilometers east of the city of Tunja.

Bogota - Iza on paved road, dual carriageway until Sogamoso. From Bogota, 147 miles, to Tunja, capital of the Department of Boyacá, and from there, 90 km to the municipality through Paipa, Duitama and Sogamoso. In the province of Sugamuxi Iza ring is within the resort of Lake Tota, which as its name implies has a circular route of about 60 km, starting from Sogamoso happening in your order by Iza, Cuitiva, Tota, Aquitaine and returns to Sogamoso. In this circuit the road is the stretch pavimentadad Sogamoso Iza, 14 km onwards is unpaved but passable. Since Iza can visit the Lake Tota, Colombia's largest and 13 nearby villages that make up the province, meet the Archaeological Museum of Sogamoso Eliezer Silva Celis, named after who discovered the ruins of the Temple of the Sun, the legacy of the Muisca culture, burned by the campaign of conquest of the sixteenth century, the monument to the Vargas Swamp Lancers, commemorating one of the most important meetings of weapons in the Liberty Campaign of New Granada in 1819, designed by Rodrigo Arenas Betancourt.

The municipality of Iza is characterized by the preservation of its historical content, which is manifested in its pre-Hispanic ancestry, rock art, myths, legends, traditions, local place names, celebrations and crafts such as weaving cotton and wool, using practices and looms of medieval Spain, as well as its colonial architecture set on a path of its streets typically Indian issues meant that its declaration as a Cultural of National Character, by the Ministry of Culture of Colombia in 2002.
